Iced Green Tea Infused with Strawberries and Lemon

It’s starting to get hot down here in Texas, very hot. I’m also getting tired of the sparkling water I have been drinking for the past year in lieu of sodas. This iced strawberry lemon green tea was a tasty diversion.

Iced Strawberry & Lemon Green Tea Preparation

Bring some water to a near boil and brew your favorite variety of green tea.  If the water is too hot, some of the benefits of the tea are lost.   I used a jasmine variety from Twinnings. If you need a little extra sweetness, add a touch of honey to the tea while steeping.

Meanwhile, start by slicing a lemon into 1/4 inch round slices, then cut the rinds off the slices and cut them further in half. Then, core and stem some strawberries and slice them lengthwise.

Muddle the strawberries at the bottom of a tall glass, then fill with ice. Over the ice, pour the brewed green tea. Top up with additional ice as desired – the hot tea melts most of the original ice.

Strawberries are rich in Vitamin C and fiber and are a low calorie fruit. Lemons boost immunity and aid digestion. Green tea contains catechins, which help fight cell damage – and catechins are absorbed more easily with the Vitamin C from the lemons and strawberries. A tasty combination!
